MADE WITH LOVE
For my BFA thesis, I created a multimedia piece that explored the relationship between women and crafting.
How can traditional crafts reveal the interpersonal
relationships women have with themselves and others?
Historically, women have been discouraged from socializing, forming opinions and expressing themselves and their outlets for creative expression were cast aside and disregarded as "women's work." In reality, much of this work was filled with as much love, hate, fear, and joy as any other great work of art. A comment from that woman on her surroundings and her situation be it about herself or about others.
Rather than couching these emotions in the traditional subtlety, I've chosen to blow up the messages hidden therein. These mediums are not easy to work in, and the hard work, frustration, and dedication required to create each message is a direct reflection of the work required to maintain the relationships those messages are intended for.
These pieces were created for the BFA thesis exhibition at Boston University.
